Lavender is easily in my list of top five favorite herbs to use in my holistic practice. And I think a lot of people use it medicinally without even realizing that's what they're doing!
Lavender is a calming herb. Magically, it's used to promote peace, prosperity, and positive or "zen" vibes. It's often used to promote luck (after all, we all know the saying "Plant lavender for luck..."). I personally like to add it to my protection spells and charms to draw in only love and harmony while the protection is up.
Much like it's magical uses, Lavender is most often used for its calming properties in holistic medicine. It holds anti-inflammatory properties, so it can be used to sooth irritated skin- like eczema or acne breakouts- and is often found in beauty products and body lotions.
It is said to help with headaches and can often be found in essential oil blends to target migraines.
Lavender can also be used to sooth away aches and pains- especially mensuration and ovulation cramps. They even make little microwavable heating pads mixed with the herb for exactly that! Just heat the lavender infused heating pad up and lay it across your stomach or even sore shoulders or back for an almost instantaneous relief. (You can totally make these yourself, by the way).
I think if I had to guess, I'd say it's most commonly used for treatment of insomnia or sleeplessness and anxiety.
There are so many room sprays available now that are lavender scented. Now, I will remind you to use caution when looking for things that claim to be lavender scented. Many products use lavender FRAGRANCE and not real lavender at all. When looking for a relaxing room spray, I always advise to see if you can find someone local who specializes in these types of holistic items.
Anyway, these room sprays are to be sprayed in a bedroom just before bed time to promote relaxation and tranquility for better quality sleep. You can also find a number of body washes, bubble baths, and the like with lavender to promote a healthy sleep. Again, I HIGHLY recommend reading the ingredients on these things before using.
Personally, I use lavender as means to aid with my anxiety disorder. The scent is very soothing and used in aromatherapy blends for stress and anxiety. Not only does it smell amazing, but the benefits of this powerful herb really DO help me! And I know I can't be the only one that has had amazing results with this flower.
Do you use lavender in your holistic or magical practice?
