PRACTCAL PROTECTION MAGIC

Protection Magic doesn't need to be complicated! There is this misconception that when putting up protective barriers around our home or person that we need to do this crazy, intense ritual with a dozen candles and herbs. I blame TV for this (hello, Charmed! Even though I totally love that show).

No, protection magic doesn't have to be complex or extravagant. In fact, you don't need any tools at all! Just a quiet place to sit and manifest- but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Let's start with the basics, shall we?

Protection magic is truly the most important form of magic when it comes to practicing the craft. You can't or shouldn't do much else without it. We must always be prepared for anything that could go wrong. CONSTANT, VILGILANCE! I know it sounds a little paranoid, but as a Witch... I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to working with higher forces.

ESPECIALLY things like divination. It is always recommended to cleanse a space (we'll talk about that another time) and put up protections before diving into a form of divination such as spirit boards, pendulums, scrying, and more. This can be as simple as burning a special candle infused with protective intentions or it can be as intense as casting a circle. Since this post is titled Practical Protection Magic, let's talk about the simple way to do things.

You can create a protective candle by cleansing the candle and then holding it in your hands. Imagine a bright, white light coming from the sky above, filling your body. Then imagine the great, protective light seeping through your hands into the candle. Continue this meditation until you feel the candle is filled with this energy. You can also do this the opposite- drawing green energy up from the ground into your feet and filling your body that way. Again, imagine that energy seeping into the candle. You have just infused a candle with protective energy! Now you can light this candle when you need it! When practicing divination or when you feel particularly spiritually vulnerable.

You can cleanse your space in your chosen way and then light a protective incense to draw in that protection energy. My go-to for this is Dragon's Blood! But there are a ton of others that you can choose to fit your needs.

For more lasting effects, you can create your very own protection powder to place around your home or at the door of your home if you live in an apartment. Try to avoid using salt, as its not good for the earth and can mess with the PH balance of the soil. There are tons of herbs you can use to do this; dill, rosemary, garlic powder, red pepper flakes to name a few and all of these can usually be found in the kitchen so you don't have to go shopping for special ingredients- unless you want to, of course.

You can wear a special stone as a necklace or carry it in your pocket if you're going somewhere you need a boost of protective energy; amethyst is perfect for psychic protection, as well as fire agate!

And if you don't have access to any of these items, you can simply find a quiet place to sit and meditate... During your meditation, imagine a fiery flame of protection surrounding you and/or your home. Imagine it burning away any thing negative sent your way before it even touches you. You have the power, the magic, to protect yourself this way in any time or place.

There are a number of other things I could add, but I think those three are perfect for beginners! AND this blog post is quickly becoming the longest one to date.

So, if there are any other ways you can think of in terms of Practical Protection Magic, let me know if the comments!

RAINBOW FLUORITE- FOR MENTAL CLARITY

I found this little stone right after my first Reiki session. After my spiritual healing, I was once again called to the crystal section of the shop. Of course, I was! It's like they're singing to me lately. "Buy us, Maddie! Buy us!" Anyway, I knew immediately the stone I had in mind was going to be a cool, bluish green type stone. It's just the color/vibe that popped into my mind. I ended up purchasing two; the Rainbow Fluorite and an Amazonite, which I'll talk about in a different blog post. Rainbow Fluorite comes in a range of colors- i.e, the RAINBOW in rainbow fluorite. Blues, greens, purples, translucent, and somethings a mix of all three! This stone is known for its ability to aid in cognitive function and mental clarity. Because of this it is perfect to keep around offices, work spaces, craft rooms, and on writing desks. It's also a fantastic stone to wear when you're going into a place or situation where you want to make sure to keep your wits...

LAMMAS or LUGHNASADH

Let's start this post with the pronunciation of  Lughnasadh. It's a hard word- especially if you're American or from any other country than it's origin. Lou-nah-sah Not an easy word to sound out, am I right?  BUT for the remainder of this post, I'll be using the term LAMMAS because it's easier to spell and I know a lot of people prefer this term because it's also easier to say. That being said, it is important to know the origin name for a number of reasons. Because are they really the same thing..? Yes and no.  Lughnasadh is the first harvest festival of the season. While it marks that Autumn is near, the hottest days of summer are still yet to come. This festival marks the halfway point between Autumn and Summer.  The first crops are being cut and harvested. Some are even left as Offerings to the God and Goddess to ensure a safe winter. Lammas roughly translates to Loaf-Mass and is referencing the first breads being baked from the first grain h...

OSTARA- WELCOMING SPRING

Oh, how I love Ostara.  What is Ostara, you ask? Well, it's an ancient Germanic festival celebrating the arrival of spring, marking the spring equinox. It focuses on the balance of all things; the darkness and light. We have finally emerged from the dark part of the year and now it is time to celebrate! While Imbolc is the half way point between Winter and Spring, we have finally reached the crossing! IT IS SPRING! Symbols of Ostara include all things you'd see in nature around this time of year; fresh eggs, colorful flowers, rabbits. Of course sexuality is also included because what do we see in the spring time? Why, it's breeding season, of course! It's an exciting celebration; we're welcoming the return of the warmth of spring! FINALLY! But that doesn't necessarily mean we can't get some early spring snow flurries. Make sure you don't jump right in to starting that garden you're so excited about. Now would be the time to start your see...
