I love Dragon's Blood. Really, I do. I think it's my favorite incense to burn. (I realize I say that about everything, but this is my blog! It makes sense that I'd be talking about my favorite things!)
I burn it for protection. I burn it for offerings. I burn it cleanse a space. I burn it for literally EVERYTHING.
Dragon's Blood is a bright red resin obtained from a tree native to Asia and Africa. The sap of the tree is a shocking red that looks like blood pouring from a wound; hence the name, Dragon's BLOOD.
It holds medicinal properties such as being an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory. It's used as a dye and pigments due to its bright color. It can even be used to create natural ink for quills and pens! Have you ever heard of the phrase to "sign in blood"?
But I think Dragon's Blood is most commonly known and used for its Magical properties.
Dragon's Blood is used for protection and often added to protective charms and spells. When burned it creates what is essentially a shield of protection around the space its smoke fills, which makes it the perfect incense to burn while practicing divination.
It's also used for cleansing and purifying a space. Personally, I like to go through and cleanse a space in another way- either with smoke or essential oil sprays, etc- and THEN light Dragon's Blood to add protection to the area after a cleansing.
You can light this incense to bring yourself into a deeper state of meditation. The scent itself is very relaxing, yet almost floral and uplifting. Because it can help you get into a deeper state of consciousness, it's great for getting into the mindset of Manifestation.
Since it is bright red in color, Dragon's Blood is closely associated with the ROOT CHAKRA, so if you are doing work surrounding that area or Chakra, then you may want to incorporate Dragon's Blood into that practice.
Dragon's Blood is also my go-to for Offerings. As stated previously, I've been feeling a call towards the Dragon spirits lately and so I've been using Dragon's Blood a lot more. I've been using it to cleanse and consecrate the new crystals I've been adding to my Dragon Altar. And don't you think the Blood of the Dragon is the best incense to do that with?
True, pure Dragon's Blood essential is not often used- if at all. I don't believe I've ever found a pure Dragon's Blood essential oil, but that's not to say it doesn't exist. In fact, if you have or know of a place to get one, please let me know in the comments! I do wonder if it would stain? I'm very curious on more information on that.
Do you use Dragon's Blood in your practice? How so?
